Spironolactone, chemically known as 17β-hydroxy-3-oxo-7α-(acetylthio)-17α-pregn-4-ene-21-carboxylic acid-γ-lactone, is a synthetic compound with the chemical formula C24H32O4S, which is mainly used as a low-potency diuretic, and its structure is similar to that of aldosterone, which is a competitive inhibitor of aldosterone. Its structure is similar to aldosterone, and it is a competitive inhibitor of aldosterone. Since it only acts on the distal tubule and the collecting duct, it has no effect on the other segments of the renal tubule, so its diuretic effect is weak. In addition, spironolactone has effects on aldosterone target organs other than renal tubules.

Spironolactone is a ster*id, a strongly acting endogenous salt corticoster*id aldosterone. Meanwhile, it has anti-andr*gen activity, which can selectively destroy testicular and adrenal microsomal cytochrome P450, thus inhibiting andr*gen production by the gonads, and can compete with dihydrotestosterone for the receptor at the target tissues, reducing the stimulation of sebaceous glands by andr*gens.
